Our 5 Tips for Good Hair Days

Planning a good hair day can feel very much out of our control. Whether you have a date, a presentation at work, or need to impress for some other event.. we want to know that we can have some sort of control over our hair looking its best.

Below are our 5 tips, including tried and true products, that always set us up for our best hair days.

1. Get to know your hair.

We all have characteristics that define our hair, whether its oily, curly, fine, coarse, thick, and so on. Simply knowing what you’re working with is a great start to finding the right products and styling techniques to helping your hair look its best. Figuring out your hair type will allow you to select the correct tools, such as the perfect brush or comb, for your hair type.

2. Your roots are key.

Taking the steps to set yourself up for a great hair day shouldn’t just include your hair itself, but the roots first. A clean and well-taken care of scalp is vital to how healthy the hair growing out of it is. We recommend a scalp scrub or a micellar shampoo every now and then to keep your scalp clean and healthy.

3. Wash your hair the right way.

We talk about this a lot here, but it’s so important not to over-wash your hair. It may sound counter-intuitive, but washing hair too frequently is actually not conducive to great hair days. Over-washing will dry your hair out, strip it of essential oils, and cause your scalp to start over-producing more oil to replace it. It’s a vicious cycle that can be prevented with simply washing 2-3 times per week, and using conditioner every day instead.

4. Avoid too much heat.

High temperatures are also bad for our hair– such as from a blow dryer or a straightening iron. If you are in a time crunch, please protect your hair with thermal protectants in these, hopefully, rare occasions when heat is necessary. Otherwise, air-drying or light towel-patting is a much healthier way to dry your hair, and set you up for better and more consistent hair days.

5. Give your hair a treat sometimes.

Treating your hair doesn’t have to have a negative connotation. Treating your hair with hair masks (think: face masks) can be a great way to give your hair some extra love and care. They serve to bolster the hair and scalp’s moisture levels, and can be used from time to time to keep the moisture level higher.
